Sickness of the Soul
When the soul is arrested and confined into human body to start living on earth as human being, the human physical body has seeing, hearing, and understanding, which operate by the heart. Nature of the heart likes good things, and nature of the soul like to be free, so when the soul is confined into human body, it gets contact with the heart of that body, so both the heart and soul function differently using same physical body, the heart continue to desire good things of the earth while the soul continue to look for freedom, the soul will look for things the heart desires and as well as continue to look for freedom, those two things continue to balance a human life to either choose freedom or what the heart desires. For example human heart of a woman desire to be married to a man but soul of that woman wants freedom in that marriage, so she continue to get husband as well observe her freedom, and when there is no freedom, she eventually leave that marriage and be free without husband. But again her heart desires to marry again her soul start seeking freedom in that marriage, if there is freedom, she will stay for ever together and happily, but when freedom is lost she can not stay in that marriage any longer. So desires of the heart is sickness for the soul.
The heart desires to posses everything good on earth, but the soul wants to be free from everything in this earth including the heart and body because the soul was confined in that heart and body as a prison. Its because of the heart and body the soul feels pain, for example if the body get sick , its soul that feels pain of that sickness, if the heart desire something, its the soul that feels the pain of not getting what the heart desires, if a mans heart fall in love with a woman, the soul gets ready to get that woman and if he do not get her, its the soul that feels the pain, and when he gets her and marry her it is the soul that feels happy, but the soul continue to demand freedom from her and she demands her freedom from him. This is where you find married couple who loved each other so much get divorce because their hearts desired to be together but their souls demanded freedom from each other, so wanting free over powered desire for marriage and they end up divorcing.
So when the heart desires something on earth, the soul will get it , such as money, beautiful woman or husband, house, land, children, power, respect, cars, animals, birds, gardens of flowers , eating best foods, best clothing, etc all these desires of the heart becomes sickness for the soul to make sure that it must get them to please the heart , and its not easy to get them, but as soon as the soul get something desired by the heart, the soul demand its freedom from that thing, for example if you get a car, you can stay inside the car as long as you use it but after some time you will need to park and get a rest, if you eat food or drink something, you will need to go to ease yourself in toilet to get rid of what you ate or drink, if you own a house you will stay within it and happily but you want to stay away from the same house , that is why there are doors on every house to come inside the house and go outside of it any time possible, if you get husband or if man gets a wife, wants to be without her ,or she wants to be without him for some time, you do not stay together all time , that is why from His mercy the compassionate, Allah created sleeping as the total freedom for the soul from all heart desires.
