Soul at time of death
Death is time for accountability to the Soul
Desires of the heart is sickness for the soul, the soul will do all that is necessary to achieve and acquire all desires of the heart, but then demand its freedom. in acquiring desires of the heart, the soul must act within its limits not to go beyond boundaries and limits defined by laws from Allah (God) who dictate what the soul must not ever do on this earth including not to steal to get what the heart desire, not to lie, not to commit murder, not to rape a woman because you like her, not to abort a child in the womb because you not ready to give birth and take care of the baby, not to take other peoples possessions by force, etc.
Allah ( God) plant His set of laws for all souls to follow how to live on earth in the hearts, and also send messengers to remind souls about laws of Allah (God) so that he or she must not act beyond limits set by Allah's law currently the holy Quran. Before Allah creates any living of the earth, which ever living that may be, either human, animal, birds, tree, insects, fish, plant, mountain, stone, He first appoint group of Angels to take care of that earthly living. Now our focus is on human being, before His soul is inserted in the baby in the womb of the mother, Allah Subhanahu Wataala ( Most Glorified the Exalted is He) appoints Angels responsible for life and death of that human being on earth. Among these Angels are those who record everything a human being is saying when he or she talks, everything a human do good or bad without intervening to stop that human from doing whatever she or he wants. While other Angels operate Faculty of seeing, hearing, and understanding, others monitor breathing in and out , others must make you sleep and also wake you up, etc. So at time of death, Angels who record everything you have been saying, doing, bring their record to other Angels in the grave for accountability how you lived your life on earth in accordance to laws of Allah (Subhanahu Wataala). This is revealed in holy Quran Chapter (50: 16-29) Surant Qaf : see verses 18 and 19
وَ لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْاِنْسَانَ وَ نَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهٖ نَفْسُهٗ ۚۖ-وَ نَحْنُ اَقْرَبُ اِلَیْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ الْوَرِیْدِ(16) اِذْ یَتَلَقَّى الْمُتَلَقِّیٰنِ عَنِ الْیَمِیْنِ وَ عَنِ الشِّمَالِ قَعِیْدٌ(17) مَا یَلْفِظُ مِنْ قَوْلٍ اِلَّا لَدَیْهِ رَقِیْبٌ عَتِیْدٌ(18) وَ جَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ الْمَوْتِ بِالْحَقِّؕ-ذٰلِكَ مَا كُنْتَ مِنْهُ تَحِیْدُ(19) وَ نُفِخَ فِی الصُّوْرِؕ-ذٰلِكَ یَوْمُ الْوَعِیْدِ(20) وَ جَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَآىٕقٌ وَّ شَهِیْدٌ(21) لَقَدْ كُنْتَ فِیْ غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنْكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ الْیَوْمَ حَدِیْدٌ(22) وَ قَالَ قَرِیْنُهٗ هٰذَا مَا لَدَیَّ عَتِیْدٌﭤ(23) اَلْقِیَا فِیْ جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِیْدٍ(24) مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَیْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِیْبِﹰ(25) الَّذِیْ جَعَلَ مَعَ اللّٰهِ اِلٰهًا اٰخَرَ فَاَلْقِیٰهُ فِی الْعَذَابِ الشَّدِیْدِ(26) قَالَ قَرِیْنُهٗ رَبَّنَا مَاۤ اَطْغَیْتُهٗ وَ لٰـكِنْ كَانَ فِیْ ضَلٰلٍۭ بَعِیْدٍ(27) قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوْا لَدَیَّ وَ قَدْ قَدَّمْتُ اِلَیْكُمْ بِالْوَعِیْدِ(28) مَا یُبَدَّلُ الْقَوْلُ لَدَیَّ وَ مَاۤ اَنَا بِظَلَّامٍ لِّلْعَبِیْدِ(29)یَوْمَ نَقُوْلُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ امْتَلَاْتِ وَ تَقُوْلُ هَلْ مِنْ مَّزِیْدٍ(30)
(16).We created man and We know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to Him than his jugular vein.(17). When the two scribe angels record; one seated to the right and one to the left.(18). He does not utter a word except that there is a guardian angel ready near him.(19). And the severity of death came with the truth; this is that which you were running away from. (20). And the Horn will be blown; this is a Day of promised retribution. (21). And every soul will come forth with an enforcing angel and a witness.(22).You were oblivious to this, so We removed your veil from you so this day your sight is sharp. (23).And his companion (angel) will say, “This is what I have with me prepared.” (24). “˹O Angels!˺ Cast every deeply ungrateful, obstinate individual into Hell (Jahannam), (25).one who excessively prevents good, a transgressor, a doubter (26). who has made another god with Allah, so ˹O Angels˺, cast him into severe punishment.”(27). And his companion (devil) will say, “O our Lord! I did not make him transgress. However, he was in extreme misguidance.” (28).He (Allah) will say, “Do not quarrel in My Court, I had already sent the warning of punishment to you.(29). In My Court, the Decree is not changed and I am not unjust to people.” (30).The Day We shall say to Hell, “Are you full?” And it will say, “Are there any more?”
